Great Romantic Getaways: Savannah, GA

 Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. Steeped in history, mystery, and romance, the town is set among lovely squares, gardens, old homes, and ancient oaks graced with Spanish moss. It’s a city of the arts, superb cuisine, and adventure.

For accommodations, you’ll have a wide range of hotels, condominiums, resorts, and beach houses. Since this article is focused on romance, I suggest one of the wonderful bed-and-breakfast inns. Savannah features many of these, and most are housed in charming old homes.

For entertainment, visit the fascinating shops, restaurants, and bars on River Street. On the weekends, you never know what you might see there!  We’ve enjoyed all kinds of amazing street performances, including some impromptu ones that left us in awe.

Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through the city squares. This is especially romantic at night, under a black sky of twinkling stars. The ghost tours are also lots of fun, and some are actually pretty spooky. Spend an afternoon touring historic Bonaventure Cemetery, located on a winding tidal river.

And, of course, there are also Savannah’s great beaches. Stroll the strand, swim, fish, sun, or engage in some bird watching. The choice is all yours!
