Kids' Bedrooms Ideas: Zebra Print Theme
82When my youngest daughter, Melissa, found out she was expecting, we all had our fingers crossed for a girl. Melissa and Cory already had two boys, so they were really hoping for a daughter. And so was I! I already had five wonderful grandsons but only two granddaughters. The day we found out the baby was a girl, we were overjoyed and began planning.
Melissa decided the baby’s room should be done in zebra printing and hot pink. I thought it was a great idea, and I began making items with a zebra or hot pink theme to go in the nursery.
Meanwhile, Cory painted to top half of the walls white and the bottom half hot pink. His mom bought a zebra print wallpaper border to go all the way around.
Zebra drawing
I used a pencil and a black marker to create this drawing of a zebra. I bought an inexpensive unfinished wooden frame and painted it hot pink with acrylic paint. I used a dark green border because the baby's room has dark green carpet. I wanted to tie in the green somehow.
Zebra print name plaque
Since I paint sometimes, I had several new canvases lying around, so I decided to make a name plaque for the baby. I used hot pink acrylic paint to create the border, and a black paint pen to make the zebra printing. I attached a pink ribon to the back of the frame for hanging.
If you want to try zebra printing on your own, practice first. The key to attractive zebra printing is to not make your lines too regular. Observe how the zebra printing appears on zebra ribbons to get a good idea about how to make your own.
Bow holder with a zebra theme
All little girls need somewhere to keep their hairbows, right? For this project, I bought an unfinished round wooden plaque from Walmart and painted it hot pink. I used a black paint pen for the lettering and glued tiny black bows around the top edge with E6000 glue. I also used the E6000 to glue the zebra ribbon hanger and the dangling pink and zebra ribbon bow holders to the back of the plaque.
As you can see, Brooklynn already has several hairbows! I'll have to find some zebra ribbons for her hair, too!
Zebra themed hanger
I made Brooklynn two zebra themed hangers or hooks. For these, I bought unfinished wooden star hangers from Walmart and painted them hot pink. I then added the zebra print with a black paint pen. For a little extra bling, I added a few acrylic rhinestones, using E6000 glue.
Hot pink monogram canvas
For this, I used a small stretched canvas. I painted it hot pink and made the "B" with a black paint pen. I used bottles slick paint for the dots, to give them some dimension. It's hard to see in the pic, but the dots are raised.
Name hanging with zebra ribbons
I bought these inexpensive black shelves at Walmart. Notice the name hanging on the left side of the shelves. The letters are suspended from zebra ribbons.
Also notice the zebra print comforter on one of the shelves. My old pal Sandi made the blankie!
Notice of the right facing of the shelves, Cory is gluing zebra ribbon. He hasn't completed this project yet.
Zebra print crib bedding set
Melissa got this zebra print crib bedding set at a baby shower they gave her at work. Her good friend and co-worker, Deb, gave it to her. It came with a matching curtain, diaper hanger, and toy pouch, too! Isn't it adorable?
Hot pink chest of drawers and zebra glass and outlet covers
Cory refurbished this old chest of drawers by removing the old finish, sanding it, and painting it hot pink and white.
Notice the hot pink and zebra print wine glass on the top of the dresser. My oldest daughter makes these and sells themm in her store. Melissa is using it to hold Q-tips.
Also, notice the outlet covers. Cory painted all of them with zebra stripes to match the room decor.
We'll add some stuffed zebras as we find them. They're actually pretty hard to locate. Sandi found a big one at Busch Gardens and is bringing it next weekend to add to the room. I also found a couple online.
We had a lot of fun creating Brooklynn's zebra print and hot pink room. This motif will last her for years. Now I ask you - is Miss Brooklynn a little diva, or what??

Great hub. Almost makes me wish I had a daughter.
Looks great, I have always have loved the zebra print and in the doctors office last week this woman had on matchin top and long skirt in that print and as she went by I just brushed the back of her skirt as she walked by to let her know I was talking to her and said, just love your outfit for which she thanked me. After she was out of hearing range my husband said,"I'd never get by with that!" I assured him he certainly would not but I'd buy him some Zebra PJs if he wanted, lol.
I can tell that you had a lot of fun decorating your granddaughter's room! It is really cute. Picking one theme unified the entire look.
habee, I swear you must be a mind reader, long distance no doubt. My eleven year old daughter wants to redecorate her room in Zebra print and bold pinks and lime green...I thought dizzy and sick feelings of overwhelming print and color. YOU'VE given me hope and great tips to work the print in without it being to much. Thanks and Peace :)
Habee, Great looking, creative nursery theme! The Zebra print is stimulating and the pinks make a beautiful contrast! Thank you for sharing! In His love, Peace & Blessings! CONGRATULATIONS!
Unusual decoration but I am sorry, habee, it wouldn't my taste. Maybe I getting too old. Now where is my walking stick and my false teeth hahaha
So cute! Can you come and do my girls room? :)
Habee, the zebra is terrific! I also like the pink frame--pink and black is, of course, a great color scheme. I love the zebra theme, and you have worked it very creatively!

Cute ideas! Beats the traditional stuff. Just love her name, too - how cute.

Habee

Nicely done hub and great artistic vision! What an effort for a little person who hasn't been born yet. One day she'll grow up and thankyou for all of your hard work, and besides, I bet you guys had fun creating it all!
Wow -- a zebra print hot pink nursery. I love it! Another great way to change the theme in a room (without adding a lot of cost) is to use ottoman slipcovers or furniture covers. You can get them in all sorts of patterns -- and combined with a fresh coat of paint or wallpaper, your entire room can look completely different!
Zebra print is a great design element to add to a kid'sbedroom, because it is fun, and it is bold. Nice hub!
