Pork Chop Recipes: Oven Fried Pork Chops

By

fried pork chops in the oven

I really like pork chops, and I have a bunch of pork chop recipes, including some easy pork chop recipes. I made some great oven fried pork chops tonight! We were having guests for dinner, so I was cooking twelve pork chops. I wanted to fry them, but these were big chops, and I didn’t want to have to stand over my skillet forever. I decided to fry some of the chops in the traditional way and fry the rest of the pork chops in the oven. I was very surprised to discover that the oven fried pork chops were actually better than the traditional fried pork chops. They were super tender and juicy, with a wonderful flavor. I may never fry pork chops again!

I’ve used Bisquick for this recipe before, but I think I like the flour better. Tonight I used self-rising flour on the chops, but I’ve used all-purpose flour before, too, and I really can’t tell much difference. You might want to adjust the seasonings for the pork chops, by adding, subtracting, or substituting. Other herbs and spices you might want to try on the pork chops include onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, white pepper, rosemary, season salt, chili powder, or chipotle powder. Dousing the pork chops with hot sauce before coating them in flour is also tasty.

One more thing : I used regular aluminum foil for lining the pan, and one of the chops wanted to stick to the foil. I think next time I’ll use the quick-release foil.

These oven baked pork chops taste amazingly like fried pork chops.

Holle’s Oven Fried Pork Chop recipe

What you’ll need:

4 – 6 pork chops, about ½-inch thick

Lawry’s garlic salt

Black pepper

Ground red pepper

Flour – plain or self rising

½ stick butter, melted

Cooking spray

Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a shallow baking pan with foil.

Rinse pork chops and shake to dry. You want to leave just a little dampness on the chops. Sprinkle the pork chops on both sides with garlic salt, black pepper, and red pepper. Rub the seasonings into the meat. Shake the seasoned chops in flour. Set the chops on a plate to rest.

Pour the melted butter in the baking pan and tilt the pan to make sure the entire cooking surface is coated with melted butter.

Shake the pork chops in the flour again. Arrange the chops in the baking pan and bake for 20 minutes. Remove pan from oven and spray the upturned side of the chops with baking spray. Turn chops over and continue to bake pork chops for about 20 more minutes, or until meat is no longer pink.

Oooh, Holle, pork chops are my favorite food - next to ribs of course. This seems to be an easy recipe so I will give it a try. Will let you know the results.

Habee, there should be a law against you writing these Hubs where the food looks so good! These pork chops are actually sizzling! I've done "shake and bake" pork chops, and they're fairly good, but I just know yours are better. Do me a favor, and stick to writing about dogs like Prince, etc. until I lose a little weight, OK? Your Georgia friend, Mary

Even though I just had dinner, those still look mighty good.

They DO look good-- and I'll bet they are less caloric than fried.

Woo wee, oven fried pork chops, makes me think about homemade apple sauce, corn on the cob, green beans and mashed potatoes. Oh, let's not forget the homemade pecan ice cream and red velvet cake.

Shoot, look out freezer here I come, the kitchen will be a mess before I'm done.

Thanks for wetting my taste buds.

Oh shoot, I almost forgot the sweet tea, now that would be a crime.

Best wishes and happy cooking. Mike

Just had to stop back in and let you know that I made this recipe tonight(had to substitute bread crumbs for the flour, as I didn't have any) and it turned out really good... Thanks again for this easy recipe!

Great alternative for fried, and they do look easy too. But I love the fact they looked fried, very cool...I am a bad bad pork cooker when it comes to chops..I fry them in manteca (pork lard).

These turned out so good, I was half expecting the police to bash down my door. Wow! Added to my home made cookbook. :)TR

Lol, Mike. I used to make a huge mess in the kitchen while I was cooking, but as I got older, I learned to clean up as I went.
