Thanksgiving Decorations and Decor
66Fall decorations and decor
Autumn is my favorite time of year. I enjoy summer and going to the beach, swimming in my pool every day, and sunbathing, but by the end of August, I’m ready for fall! Before September ends, I usually have my fall decorations up. The day after Halloween, my Thanksgiving decorations go up.
Versatile fall and Thanksgiving decorations
The great thing about fall decorations and décor is that you can keep them up so long. If you put them out at the beginning of September and leave them up until Thanksgiving, you’ve gotten almost three months of enjoyment from just one decorating session! After all, many of the decorations used for Halloween are also perfect for Thanksgiving decorations, or for fall, in general. These include pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, chrysanthemums, and scarecrows. I use all of these. At Thanksgiving, I’ll usually add a couple of Pilgrim and Native American figurines, but other than that, my house is already decked out with Thanksgiving decorations. This gives me more time to spend cooking for the annual feast!
I love the colors of fall – red, orange, yellow, rust, gold, brown, and forest green. I also love pumpkins, and I use them all over my front porch and in my home. I also use gourds, both inside and out. I usually use a mixture of real and artificial pumpkins and gourds. The same goes for chrysanthemums in beautiful fall colors. All of these make great Thanksgiving decorations.
Scarecrows for Thanksgiving decorations and fall decorations
I also have a collection of scarecrows that I use outdoors, near my front door. They range in size from about a foot tall to almost five feet tall. I place a couple near a bale of hay, and I place another one sitting on a bench on the front porch. One medium-sized scarecrow pushes a small wheel barrow filled with apples, gourds, small pumpkins, and fall leaves.
The grandkids love helping me decorate for fall because they know that means that Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas aren’t far away. I usually let the kids place the pumpkins and scarecrows wherever they want to, then after the grands leave to go home, I rearrange some of them. Funny, the kids never seem to notice that I’ve re-done their handiwork!
Decorating for fall and Thanksgiving helps me to enjoy the autumn holidays more. It seems like they come and go so quickly, especially as I get older. I guess the decorations are one way to “stretch out” the wonderful fall holidays for me and my family. And besides, the fall and Thanksgiving decorations are just so varied and colorful!
Where to buy fall decorations and Thanksgiving decorations
If you want to go the natural route with autumn and Thanksgiving decorations, check out your local farmers' market. You can usually find a wide assortment of pumpkinds, gourds, and winter squashes. Some farmers' markets also sell potted mums, and these make great Thanksgiving decorations. The mums can be used as outdoor Thanksgiving decorations or indoor Thanksgiving decorations. I've used them as Thanksgiving centerpieces before.
I’ve purchased fall decorations and Thanksgiving decorations from numerous sources, including department stores, dollar stores, craft stores, and online. The best ones seem to sell out quickly, however. For some great deals and a large selection, search online. Great hub. I love to decorate for fall. My kids and I usually go on a nature walk and find things to decorate with. Last year my oldest girl enjoyed finding pine cones and acorns.
Great Thanksgiving decorations!
Our spring was so lovely and cool this year, but summer hit suddenly with a vengeance. Now it has gone just as suddenly, literally overnight, and we are enjoy some fabulous fall weather. All that to say that we are definitely in the mood to decorate for fall. Thanks for some lovely ideas.
Love the fall too habee! I have never liked the hot weather much so for me, it is the beginning of cooler weather, the holidays, spice, apples, the smell in the air!
