Thanksgiving holiday ideas

I absolutely love holiday ideas for Thanksgiving! Next to Christmas, it’s my favorite time of the entire year. There’s just something so cozy and homey about the holiday, with all my family members coming to my house for the big feast. I actually begin planning for the event a couple of months in advance, and that includes searching for Thanksgiving recipes and attractive platters for serving the foods.

Our family Thanksgiving is always a group project. Hubby cooks the ham, the turkeys, and the pork roast, and I make the pumpkin-cheesecake layered pies, pecan pie, the green peas, the corn casserole, the sweet potato soufflé, the rolls, the tea, and my famous old-fashioned Southern cornbread dressing. My three daughters bring sides like green bean casserole, mushroom and rice casserole, broccoli casserole, squash casserole, mashed potatoes, and another dessert or two. Of course, someone also provides lots of cranberry sauce!

We place all the food on my long counter in my breakfast room, and everyone helps himself to all the delicious dishes. Believe me, when all this homemade grub is lying end to end, it’s a feast for the eyes as well as for the tummy! I’ve always believed that food should not only taste good, but that it should also look good.

I always enjoy making my dining room and my tables look festive for the occasion. I use squashes, pumpkins, and gourds, along with fall leaves and figurines of Pilgrims and Indians. I also love using platters and serving pieces with a Thanksgiving motif – turkeys, pumpkins, Indian corn, and the like. They really seem to add to the gaiety of the celebration!

Of course, some of these would also be great for use at other times of the year. For example, if you serve turkey at Christmas or Easter, the turkey platters would lend themselves nicely. And the other serving pieces would work for any fall dinner or party.

If you’re looking for Thanksgiving serving pieces and platters for your holiday table or buffet, check out the selection below. You’ll find platters made of glass, china, and pewter, along with serving plates and dishes in the shape of pumpkins, turkeys, acorns, leaves, and other Thanksgiving-inspired shapes. Most of the pieces shown have matching pieces available. To see them, just click on a product. that you like to see more.

Me, too Spanky - it is one of the times I get to use a lot of my 'stuff' that I keep accumulating for the kitchen!

Well, I guess there's no time like the present to fantasize about my absolutely favorite holiday of the year, Holle. I adore the cooking, enjoy experimentation and drool over platters and serving ware.

Maybe we should have a grand Thanksgiving in say, Texas-you know, 1/2 way for both of us and have a HUGE thing.

I know I'd love to hear your southern drawl. I miss it so!

Great hub!
