World's Smallest Horse - At Just Six Pounds! See the Video!
80A new world record might very well have been born this past Friday, April 23, 2010 – the tiniest horse. “Einstein,” a miniature horse, weighed in at just 6 pounds. That’s smaller than most human babies! The diminutive pinto colt was foaled in Barnstead, New Hampshire, on the Tiz Miniature Horse Farm, and stands 14 inches tall. Einstein is mostly white, with black patches, and he’s totally adorable!
The current world record holder for the tiniest horse is Thumbelina, another miniature horse. Thumbelina is 17 ½ inches tall and is also a miniature horse, but it suffers from dwarfism. Its legs, head, and body are not in proportion to each other. Einstein, on the other hand, is not a dwarf, and he seems to be perfectly healthy. Einstein could very well turn out to be used as a stud for a new line of very small miniature horses, especially if he is officially declared the new world’s record.
Many people get miniature horses and ponies confused. Sure, both the miniature horse and the pony are small equines, but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. Ponies are built differently, usually with a larger head, a more compact body, and proportionately shorter legs than a horse would have. A miniature horse, however, is proportioned like a horse – it’s just a much smaller version. A mini is generally slimmer and finer of bone than a pony, and they lack the “pot belly” that many pony breeds often have. Also, ponies range widely in size, from very small to breeds that are almost as large as a regular saddle horse. Miniature horses, however, are always small – much smaller than a full-sized horse. Below you’ll find a link to my article about the differences in the two equines, with a picture of each to help you see and understand the differences.
I purchased a miniature horse last year for my granddaughter’s sixth birthday. His name was Snickers, and he was large enough for Lexi to ride. Tragically, Snickers was bitten by a rattlesnake just a few days after the birthday party, and he had to be put down. I used a photograph of Snickers in my article about the miniature horse vs. pony. The link is below.
Miniature horses are steadily gaining in popularity. They make excellent pets, and many can be ridden by small children. Saddle companies even make diminutive tack for these pint-sized horses. People also use the horses to pull small carts, and some owners keep their mini’s inside, just as they would a dog or cat. Miniature horses are also used as guides for the blind, with their handicapped owners stating that the miniatures are sturdier than dogs that are more commonly used as animal guides, and the miniature horses also live much longer than a dog would. Besides, many horse enthusiasts just like the idea of having a tiny horse around!
To get an idea of Einstein’s size, watch the Youtube video below. I’m curious: Would you ever consider having a miniature horse as a pet?

Awwww how cute! Barbie now has a real horse! LOL
This is so interesting. I know that a lot of animals are now bred to become miniature but this is microscopic compared to a percheron!!!!
Cool hub habee!
Indeed I would.
My gosh never seen them before,
If I lived in a house or farm that had any land
I swear this would be my next pet
in love
Thank you habee
Kimberly
Oh wow, he is so tiny! Adorable, but I'm not sure if I'd want to keep one as a pet. I have never heard of horses being this small. Thanks for sharing this habee!
Thank you, habee, for giving me so much pleasure to watch this video. I would have any horse, small or big. You know me. The very smell of them would outdo the most expensive perfume.
I read the news & your article & i still don't what the average weight of 1 of these are when born. I see a mini-horse mom, & I'm thinking, well the mom is small, guess the baby should be small also. Right???
Cute little horse, I wonder if I will choose this or a dog. Kids will love this horse
Wonderful hub and adorable video.
I would definitely at least consider a miniature horse as a pet. I've always been in love with horses :)
Habee, He is absolutely as is your grandchild. I can't imagine having a horse that small. Great hub.
How totally amazing...I would be afraid it would run away and I would never be able to catch it.
Wow that is one small horse. That one took miniature to a whole new level!
My wife has a cat that's bigger than this:-)
Oh my gosh!!!! I want one!!!! How adorable! I'm so sad for snickers. :( I never knew such tiny horses existed!! Thanks for opening my eyes to this charming creature. :)
Awesome hub-Thanks
He is so cute! I would love to have one.
I'd heard of mini horses, but not ones this small. Amazing! But if I were a horse, I'd want to be a big one!
Habee, you always broaden my horizons. I had no idea a horse could be this small. So cute!
Adorable little guy! Can mini horses be house trained like dogs?
What a sweet looking guy. It does not seem right to have a horse like einstein as a pet. However he will need a loving home to keep him safe so I don't know. Hope he gets treat well wherever he ends up.
habee, oh yea they aired that on the news great hub... This is just amazing. The news left me wondering about this tiny creatures and now you've delivered the details. Great HUB and video footage. Thanks and Peace :)
habee- this was fun! Cute as a button, but I think he would be illegal in the city. The people who know me would be really happy about that! :-D
Nice to see and hear video. Thanks for sharing.
love it great write picture its great work thanks
Nice hub. looks like a little toy.
Einstein is right where he should be. The owners in the video look as though they are the proud parents. For him to survive they will have to watch over both mother and colt to ensure Einstein is protected against wild animals that could snatch him-up for a snack. Thanks for sharing your video. It made me happy and smile and watch it 3 times.
Another great one. Rated it up and tweeted it.
Einstein is very very charmous....
So cute, I would love to have a horse as small as this so that it could be a "house horse", and live with my cats, Husband and myself. I know that this could be very possible as small ponies are now trained to act as "Guide Dogs" for the blind and have even been taken on planes in the passenger compartment with their owners because of the support they provide. This means they have to be capable of being house trained, so why not simply have one as a pet and exercise it etc like a dog! Sounds great to me :)
Excellent hub, thanks.
He's so cute. I want one now. Thank you for sharing this.
I was doing my best to look underneath that little guy to check for batteries! I'd bet a bunch of people are now going to try to purchase miniature horses now! I'd buy stock in it if I could ;)
very nice, and so cute, Thanks habee!
Bob would not be afraid of THAT one! He never did my love of horses but I bet he'd feel better since he would never have to ride it. How adorable and yes, do start a miniature horse farm!
Precious, Precious, Precious!!!!
Lovely Hub and darling Horse. Check out my HUB on the Darkmoor Pony of England. They are the cutest little breed I've ever seen (I had 3 Morgan Horses)NICE Hub!
So cute and adorable. Nice hub habee.
Hey, awesome hub! that stallion is so cute and he looks sooooo sweet!
Habee I would let Einstein live in my house, that is the cutest damn thing I have ever seen! You must love minis, but I can understand why!
I'd have one in a heartbeat. Sorry you lost yours to a rattlesnake bite. So sad. Lovely hub.
loved this i am in new zealand and today on Opera your little guy was on there
Watched it as i am a breeder of these great little horses and went out side and told my two current foals about this guy making them all famous .
